Comments:   Yes, Paul, the cafeteria has memories for me, too. I remember the sun's glare off the waxed and buffed floor when we walked in. I remember having breakfast conversations with Marcus Lindo who dismissed tables my freshman year. As a staff member, I remember working on the steam boilers in the basement, getting up and going down there at 4:30 a.m. to fire them up. During boiler teardown, I remember Willa sending me out of line to wash my face. I had washed the soot off of my hands and arms, but my face was still black. I also remember leaving tasty fuel-oil fingerprints in my burger bun because the soap couldn't wash off all the fuel on my hands. And, of course, we all remember listening to the many arguments guys had with Mr. Roberts about whether or not the milk was sour. As much as we may have complained about the food, most of us seemed to enjoy the relief from the day that supper brought, especially on Friday night.

Comments:   Thanks Elmer and Frank for taking us down memory lane...Its funny what each of us remembers. A lot of my memories seem to center around the cafeteria. I can still feel the wind whipping through my clothes as I ran across the walkway from the boy's dorm, the faint scent of burning leaves in the distance, and the explosion of warmth as I entered the double doors into the cafeteria. I remember walking past the trophy cases (and who was it that switch the trophies Elaine??), Mr Pierson's office, Willa's smile and sitting quietly (sometimes) watching the sun set over the dark pine hills. I remember a lot of good conversations as we ate and the luxery of knowing another day was done. Thanks for the memories.

Comments:   I was just reading Elmer's comments and boy did they bring back memories..... I remember going for hikes in the backwalk behind the dorms and walking for what seemed like miles! I remember the silence.... broken occaisionally by the sound of a passing loon. I remember the huge puffs of clouds that wandered silently above in the baby-blue yonder. I remember the small pond which was usually covered in some green thing and skipping stones across as we made our way around it. I remember the TALL pines that were everywhere!!! I also remember the smell of burning leaves and timber as somewhere nearby...someone was clearing brush. I can still hear the crunch of leaves and branches as we made our way down further. And most of all...I remember the relief we all felt after treking back toward the dorm...we knew we were getting closer because we could see the all too familiar PVA water tower next to the guy's dorm....Those were just some of the moments that lead me to believe my 3 years at PVA were three of the best years of my life.....And that's one reason I love coming here to this corner of the Web....It's my time machine to the past which I can use anytime I want to go back to New Braintree....Yep...anytime I want! Can you imagine being in Heaven and running into some old classmates and sharing some of these stories...and having Jesus say to you..."Yeah...Of course I remember when you took that walk"....."I was right there with you"....

Comments:   Well, I finally got around to posting the Honor Roll section of the website. It contains the names of Alumni that have donated to the Alumni Website Fund.

Thank You!

I will also be adding a section for our fellow classmates to promote their business ventures/services on this website. This section will contain banners with links that will take you to their website or contain information on their services if they do not have a website.
The cost will be $25.00 per year and all funds will go to the Alumni Assc. General Fund. This fund is what makes the reunions happen and we have one coming up in less then two years!(please supply your own banner as I stink at making them)

I would like to thank you all for supporting the website and securing its future on the Internet, donation or not. If the website is not used, what good is it after all.

Comments:   Greetings from the center of Montana. I was told that the geographic center is actually at the corner of the kitchen sink in a house near the Lewistown public library. So now that you know where we are, here's the latest news. The deer population hasn't been visiting our end of town and rumor has it that it's because of cougar. I talked to one guy today who lost four or five house cats, who, obviously weren't in the house when they disappeared. We visited Crystal Lake in the Big Snowy Mountains on Labor Day. We were told that it would be crowded by central Montana standards -- and it was: We saw two cars at the picnic area and two at the boat ramp. There was one canoe on the lake. This is my kind of "crowded." If we ever want to see a real crowd, we can drive 2.5 hours southwest and visit Yellowstone. I do sometimes miss New England. I remember getting road passes and going for a road hike in the fall, sometimes with Doug Perry, Jim Stewart and Jim Eisnor. We found a field full of old cars once, including a Packard and some old GM cars with straight eights. Any of you guys ever hike down behind the school to where the old cemetary was? Some of the epitaphs were funny. Once when I was on staff in '78, Dennis Allison and I hiked the back way into West Brookfield. Dick Tibbits' dog followed us the whole way -- including into the library. We kept trying to shoo him home, but he would disappear into the woods only to appear again a few miles later. We were in the balcony in the library when we heard the librarian call up from below: "Is this your dog? Take him outside!" I remember when I was on staff, pulling out of the campus in my '56 Cadillac and tuning in Carpenters "Top of the World" on the powertuner radio, feeling the crispness of fall and enjoying the incomparable New England fall colors. How about the rest of you? What's news? Jump in here and share some of your memories, too.

Comments:   I have posted the lastest Alumni Email list. I removed about 80 or so email addy's from it as they were returned during the last mass emailing marked as unknown.

Sometimes this happens when your email box is full or the email system you are using is having problems.

If you find that your information is missing, just drop me an email and I will put you back on.
But I suspect that many of them were old and not updated for one reason or another. So we need to find our fellow classmates and get them to send in their information.

Thanks!

This summer I went to my second alumni reunion. First one was 1970 and I'm sure some of you will remember it! This second one was in Walla Walla and what a treat to find my old roommate, Steve Bergherm and his wife Cindy there. I had no idea he even still existed till we met. I was joined on the trip by Alice Schander ('70)whom I had the good sense to marry and Dennis Farley (did he really graduate) who through lack of sense, I invited along. It is apparent that many alumni have migrated to the left coast and I hope we can have more opportunities to meet in the future.

Nelson was at Walla Walla College as president, then stepped down about a year ago to take a sabbatical for a year, then go back to teaching.A quick check of the Walla Walla Valley Academy site finds wife Nancy still teaching there. Her e-mail address is nelsna@WWVA.org. Last I knew, Stacey Nelson was leading a wellness and exercise program connected to Disney World near Orlando, Florida. That was a long time ago and I have no idea whether he's still there. Nancy could probably fill you in about that. If you find people, urge them to send Tim updated info so the e-mail and mailing list stays up to date. Hope this info helps.

Comments:   I hope all went well with the west coast reunion and that those that attended can post what all they did and will also send me some pictures to post so others can enjoy what they missed.

I will be updating the email list very soon. We had over 100 bad emails returned with the last emailing. While about 10 or so folks have emailed me since with updated information, that still leaves over 90 Alumni that we have lots track of.
Send in those updates and encourage other Alumni to send in their information. We don't want them to miss a thing!

I know I have enjoyed working on the website and have plans for it that I am sure you will like. It is an important item to us all as it is the only physical link to our old school, our classmates and provides a way for us all to stay in touch. It also carry's the name and memories of PVA . It deserves the best.

Thats why I am asking you to take a momment and donate what you can to keep it running smoothly. Currently the Alumni Asc. pays for most of the bill and I pay as much as I can. The cost is small for what we get. Our own private guestbook, no offending ads, great up time, tight security, the pvaalumni.com domain and hourly data back up. The cost for both the domain of pvaalumni.com and the website space runs only $120 a year. For this level of service, this is a great price.

Sure there are cheaper places to host it just as there are more expensive hosts, but on the Internet you truly get what you pay for.
I would like to see the website run on donations from the Alumni and the money the Alumni Asc. gets from the conference go toward our reunions. Both are important and worth our efforts and support.

The bill for the website is due this month and we would love to see the Alumni support it fully in whatever way they can.

To donate you can send a check or money order to:

Tim Shriver
PVAAlumni Website

Waunakee Wisconsin 53597

or

Use the PayPal donation link on the main webpages.

Comments:   Reunion West 2002 is approaching fast.

I went to Walla Walla yesterday to finalize most of the arrangements. The campus is beautiful and the facilities we have arranged for are going to serve our needs very well.

I will be arriving on campus sometime Thursday afternoon on July 4 and will be there thru the weekend. I will be staying in Room #3 at the Havistad Alumni Center. The alumni center is located adjacent to the Fine Arts Building, where we will be centering our activities for the weekend. If anybody needs to contact me for any information or directions, etc., there are, or will be,2 phone # to call. First is my cell phone: 208-250-1055 and then as of Thursday evening the phone # in my room at the alumni center will be: 509-527-2716. A basic outline of the weekend is as follows:

Friday afternoon: Registration/Check-In at my room #3 at Havistad Alumni Center (a map will be on the door at the Fine Arts Center)4:00pm.

Friday evening: An inspirational Vespers on the benches and patio just outside the Fine Arts Center at 8:00pm (sundown is at 8:45pm. A fruit platter will be available, along with cheese and crackers and drink.

Sabbath morning: 9:20 Sabbath school will begin with a rousing Song Service. Matt Lombard (70) will present a special feature on a recent mission trip he took to Russia. Sabbath School will be followed by Church Service at approximately 11am. The speaker for Church will be John Wagner (the first men's dean at PVA, and later president of SMC). Immediately after church, we will enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn and covered patio of the Fine Arts Center. The menu includes Veggie-dogs, Pasta Salad, Baked Beans, and Cake. Thes items along with plastic-ware, plates and cups will be supplied by the alumni assoc. Attendees are requested though not required to bring along drinks, chips, or any other picnic type food you would like.

Sabbath afternoon will be free for visiting and fellowship. We have a private room reserved at "The Modern" a chinese restaurant in Walla Walla for the evening meal beginning at 6:30pm. We recognize that some may not wish to go to a restaurant during Sabbath hours but this option is being made available for those who wish to do so. We are confident that there will be sufficient food left from the picnic lunch to provide eating opportunity for those who choose not to go to "The Modern.

We will return to the Fine Arts Center on campus for Sabbath Vespers by Dennis Farley (71) and additional programming.

We look forward to seeing many of you there and enjoying some great fellowship, getting reaquainted and making new friends with those from other classes.

See you at Walla Walla College, July 5 & 6, 2002. Drive safely!!

Please come even if you haven't pre-registered.

Comments:   Hello to anyone who still has a recollection of me from only being at PVA for one year. I was a quick transplant from the West, Pendleton, OR, and so after graduation, I headed West again, and am still here in B.C. since Sept. 1975. But a little footnote, I and my family will be moving to near Lynden, WA in less than a month. My Mom and Dad, who still live in Pendleton came up last weekend and passed on the reunion info. and we are looking at the possiblility of driving down on that weekend to the PVA reunion. If so, I'll register this week, and will hope to see a familiar face or two when we get into town. Thanks for the PVA memories that I've been getting by looking on the web page. God Bless, regardless whether we come down or not. Keith Roberts

Comments:   We've just finished a long few weeks of travel. In addition to traveling within our district of two churches 75 miles apart, I've been to Billings a few times, traveled to northern Idaho for a pastors retreat, driven to Bozeman for Montana campmeeting, then drove to NE Oregon for a wedding in which Naomi, our four-year-old, was a flower girl. After the looooooooong drive back to our home in central Montana, it reaffirmed my decision not to join many of you in Walla Walla for the July reunion. The kids are tired and the gas bill on the credit card is horrendous. As much as my heart draws me to attend, my head says "no, please, no more driving." We are enjoying Montana very much, especially after experiencing the hot weather in the Walla Walla Valley for a day. If any of my old friends are traveling through central Montana on the way to the reunion, contact me and plan to drop in. Of course, I can't imagine where you'd be coming from that would require you to pass through Lewistown, Montana, but we're only a couple of hours north of I-90! Get those registrations in to Dave and Helen so they know how many for which to plan. Enjoy yourselves and if you have a digital camera, use it liberally and post some pics of the folk attending the reunion. May God bless you all and give you safe trips.

Dave, I'm glad to hear that you're taking the reins. You've been an enthusiastic supporter of Reunion West 2002 and I'm confident that you'll help make this a memorable weekend for all attending. We're enjoying Montana -- even the snow flurries that we've had on a couple of mornings this week. I will, however, miss seeing you all at the reunion. Support Dave's and Helen's efforts. And most important, get those registrations in so Dave knows how many to plan for.

Comments:   Very sorry to hear that Elmer will no longer be able to assist in the plans for PVA Reunion West 2002. I know that he has already spent a lot of time and effort. His hard work and organization to this point are very much appreciated. I'm sure that we all wish him well and many blessings with his new responsibilities. May God richly bless Elmer's ministry. I have been in contact with our Alumni President, Helen Kuntz, and offered to assist in any way I can. She has asked me to act as a resource person to "coordinate" the weekend. I have accepted. We will still carry thru with all the plans Elmer has already made and seek to complete the missing elements as soon as possible. What we really need now is for all of you who are planning on being there, to let us know of your plans. The sooner the better. You can contact Helen by email as listed elsewhere on this website. Or, you may contact me via this email address, or by regular mail: 15207 Vista Drive, Caldwell, ID 83607. If a phone call works better for you, I can be reached most evenings at: 208-454-1219 Let's all plan diligently to make this Alumni Reunion a great success!! July 5 - 7, 2002 Registration forms are available elsewhere on this website.

Comments:   I've accepted a call to serve as a pastor in a two-church district in Montana. I'll be living in Lewistown near one of the churches, which is just about the geographic center of the state. The second church is in Roundup, about 80 miles south of Lewistown. Until now, I've been planning and recruiting program participants for PVA Reunion West 2002, to be held on the Walla Walla College campus July 5 and 6. Because of the distance and because of a rapidly filling schedule in Montana, I will be unable to attend the reunion. The reunion can certainly go on without me. Our capable president, Helen Kuntz, is lining up a person or persons to take over the execution of our plans, which are nearly complete. I encourage you all to attend. Send your registrations to the new PVA Alumni Association address at 800 Main St. #246, Holden MA 01520. Given the big changes happening in our lives right now, we can't be there, but many of you can. Have fun. I hope to hear that you all had a great time worshipping God together and catching up on stories of the events in your lives since you left that campus on the hill.

Comments:   With the renewal of the domain pvaalumni.com and website hosting coming due soon, we have placed a "donation" link on the main page of the website.
We use a first class company in Janesville Wisconsin for the hosting and domain registration. The cost of this is around $150.00 per year. While cheaper offerings are out there for hosting our website, this one backups the site to tape every hour, we have full CGI abililty along with great support from them. I have tried other hosts both cheap and expensive and so far these folks go above and beyond any of the others in reliabilty and service.

In the past the Alumni Asc and myself have funded the site and will continue to make sure if remains here for all to use. But if you wish to contribute, we have given you all a secure and accepted way of doing so.

We will also be adding a donation link for the Alumni Asc itself, for use in mailing out news letter to those without email and to upgrade the way we handle the data base of Alumni information.

The emails that came back returned was over 90 with this last email test that I did. These names will be removed from the Alumni Email listings next release.
With that many names missing, I find it hard to get them all on the website. So, if you are not listed, either we didn't have the information, the test email came back bad, or I messed up. Either way, send in your information

We have a reunion in California this summer. We needs all you west coast Alumni to help out. Now is the time! Please email me or Helen if you wish to help out.

WE NEED MORE PICTURES!

Folks love 'em. So send them to me and I will put them online ASAP or sooner.

Thanks

Tim

Comments:   My husband, Gary, and son, Matt, and myself just returned from a 2 1/2 week trip to Riverside Farm Institute in Zambia, Africa to visit our daughter, Jessie. Jessie is a student missionary from Southern Adventist University to Riverside for 10 months. She is having the time of her life and was most anxious for the rest of her family to come over and see why it was that she loved it so much. Truly we learned why as we spent a fantastic time over there. Alan and Pauline (Aho) Knowles, missionaries there, gave us an unbelievably wonderful time "experiencing Zambia". It was such fun to have our whole family together and to relive old memories with Alan and Pauline who are both PVA graduates. Jessie is taking the year off to be the SM and will return to Southern in the fall. Our son, Matt, is a graduate student at Southern earning his Masters Degree in Health Care Administration. We continue to keep active in our local church and many other activities including all the traveling that we can do. I would love to hear from any of my classmates or friends from other classes that may know me. I just celebrated my 53rd birthday, but my mind is still young and one of the greatest pleasures of my life is being with and working with young teen-agers. God bless. Jean

Comments:   Former PVA staff member Jim Copsey is in room 8209 of the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City battling cancer. I just got off the phone with Mark Copsey's wife Elizabeth, and she tells me that Jim is not expected to last the week. Mark flew out today to be with his parents. I talked to Jim on the phone and he was alert and in good spirits. If you knew him -- and especially if you worked with him in the maintenance department -- give him a call and encourage him. The hospital phone number is 816-861-4700. The direct line to his room is 816-922-5904.

Comments:   Hello All, just another update. It seems that God has other plans for my life. After starting in maint. at PVA in the summer of '77 and working at it ever sence I am now looking at a major change of occupations. After the accident that cut off my right hand and three operations to reattatch it and after eight months of therapy, the Doctors have said that it is not going to get any better. The movment that I have left is being able to make a hook with my figers and pinch my thumb agaist the first figer. I thank God for the promise that someday in an twinkling of an eye I will get a new hand that will work and until then I can't wait to see what I get to do next. Please pray that only Gods will, will be done as I get on to my new line of work. thank you for all your prayers

If 2 or 3 people in a room through prayer can affect a healing, imagine what hundreds of people joining hands throught time and space through the internet could accomplish... thanks

Comments:   Been a little out of touch lately. Along with mucho others, I got activated 20Sep of last year. My students were happy (until the sub got there) because they want me to do something heroic and give them a shout-out on TV. I just remind them I'm TOOOO old to be a hero and have insisted that all my shooters protect me or I won't write about them. I'm with a Combat Rescue Wing. "We" fly in and snatch pilots and others who are behind enemy "lines"--our unofficial motto: You can shoot'em down but you can't kept'em." I stress that I'm the combat historian for the Wing so seldom get that close to anything more dangerous than out-of-date MREs. Being in the Air Force also means a bed as opposed to the bareground--'course sometimes the reservations don't come through and the accomadations aren't up to snuff. In any case, I hope to be back to civilian life by the reunion and snag my wife and put us both on the motorcycle and head up to Walla Walla where I onced lived--back in the dark ages.

Comments:   This coming Tuesday I will be sending out a "test" email to all the folks on the Alumni Email List. This will include all the updated or new email information that I have recently been sent. It will not contain an email list.

The reason for this is so that I may post on the website those emails that came back bad. Then we can all work on getting them updated.

After that is done, I will send out the new email listing.

With the reunion just a few short months away, we need to have the best email list we have ever had. So if you speak or see a fellow Alumni, please get their email information and send it on to me.

Thanks!

Tim

Comments:   Tim, Just looking through the PVA page on www.classmates.com and noticed there were a number of alumni on that list not on our e-mail listing. Just wondered if you or anyone belonged to that site (only paid members can contact other members) and could find out if they wanted to be listed on the PVA webpage. BRENDA--loved your memories of PVA--would love to read more from others--also, we need more people to send in pictures!! For those of you who remember Marcus Lindo, ran into him while visiting a church here in the Washington DC area. Good to see old friends. Paul

Also, I used to send a premliminary email out, with just that list, asking for help. Usually got a fair number of responses.

Comments:   I love to hear stories from the "PVA Days". Keep 'em coming!

I will be putting together and posting the most important email listing of this year.
As you might have noticed, there is a Reunion planned for this summer out in Walla Walla.
This next email list will be used to send information and registration directions for this upcoming reunion.
It is very important that the information in it be "good to go" with no or very few "return to senders"
Right now, the current list has about 40 or more address entries that will be dropped due to them being bad.
The emailing is very important to the Alumni group as it helps us reduce costs involved with snail mailing this information. Those that are not listed on the email list or emails returned as bad will have to be mailed, if we have current address information. This cuts into the very very small budget we have.
Please send me any updates ASAP so that I can start working on this listing. If you email or talk with a fellow Alumni or faculty member, tell them to email me with their current information.
You might also take a minute to update your other information as well. This information is not posted on the web or released without your prior approval. Information like your address, contact information, occupations etc.You can do this off the main webpage or email it to me.

We are also in need of someone that might wish to take over the Alumni database and whip it into shape. Please email me if interested.

Ok, time for some more of those stories!

Tim
